Spring Bear Hunts

Our Spring bear hunts take place in May when the bears are emerging from their winter dens. Their furs are prime and the bears head for the newly emerging green grass and flowers to begin their springtime feast. As the spring progresses they eventually begin to seek the newborn deer fawns, and elk and moose calves. Approximately 40% of our bears are color phase bears.

Typical Day of hunting

Your day begins with breakfast in our comfortable lodge. We usually have breakfast at 7:00 and then head out to spot bears. We cover a lot of country by driving and some hiking, and spend time glassing meadows looking for bears. Once a bear is spotted we plan our pursuit whether it be sneaking in for a shot or trying to call the bear into rifle range. During the warmer midday hours we often find a few ground squirrels to harass so bring along your favorite varmint rifle. We either pack a lunch or drop by the lodge for a midday snack. The lush green grass of the lower altitude meadow draws deer and elk who also begin having their young in late May. We also see moose regularly as well as the occasional mountain lion, wolf, coyote, and more.
